Newborns

Thinking about booking a newborn session? Here are the most frequently asked questions I receive:

When is the best time to book?

It's best to secure a spot on my calendar during/before your second trimester... but if you are past that time frame don't hesitate to contact me!

How do I book without knowing when baby will actually be born?

I pencil you in on your due date and plan on a range of a week before and after that time. This way I can adjust my calendar if baby arrives a little early or late. Once baby has arrived just let me know the happy news and we can schedule the session within the squishy newborn phase. A guide will be sent out to help you prepare for the session.

The squishy newborn phase

is what I call that window between 7-12 days old. This age is the best for capturing those curled up sleepy poses you typically see on Pinterest, etc. Why? Babies are still curled up like they were in the womb and are usually at their sleepiest. After about 2 weeks their little legs have started to straighten more, they are chubbier, and wanting to stretch and be free...which makes certain poses more difficult.

If you need a little more time, I completely understand. You and your babies' comfort is important to me. While certain poses may require extra time or not be achievable, I have photographed newborns up through 5 weeks old.

You will still get gorgeous memories to cherish of your  sweet baby.

What is the session like?

Baby runs the show! On average,  newborn session take around 2-3 hours. This might seem like a long time but your baby's needs and safety are my priority. Feeding, changing, extra snuggles, etc., take time but it's all worth it in the end when you can look back on just how little those toes used to be.

Do I need to bring anything with to the session?

I have a fully stocked studio with all kinds of props, outfits and wraps for both boys and girls in a variety of colors. If you do have something special like handmade blankets or an heirloom item you would like photographed, just let me know.

Can parents and/or siblings be included?

Yes! These portraits are taken care of right at the beginning (while everybody is still enthusiastic about the studio and big light) then the rest of the session will be focused on your newborn's portraits.
